Retaining Bases are commonly used to help protect where the poles are joined to the ragbolt /foundation cages and pit covers when installed on a slope. Different options are used for different gradients ranging from 1:6 to 1:2.
Base Plate Mounted Pole
The Base Plate is designed to be used in applications with steeper embankments that have cross falls greater than 1:2. These bases are designed to suit footings installed with a 600mm dia foundation and meets QLD Main Roads SD1393.
Slip Base Pole
The Slip Base is designed to be used in applications with shallower embankments that have cross falls greater than 1:6 up to and including 1:3. This is the most commonly used retaining base for light pole installations as it’s open ended ‘horseshoe’ shape can be installed after the pole has been erected. These bases are designed to suit footings installed with a 600mm dia foundation and meets QLD Main Roads SD1382.
Pole Step Tread
The Pole Step Tread is designed for be used in the shallowest applications for cross falls greater than 1:6 and up to and including 1:3. These are the most versatile retaining base as they are a concrete plank that is commonly installed roadside to protect poles, pits and solar battery boxes. These are made to QLD Main Roads SD1429 and are installed alongside 4x galvanised steel star pickets for support which Tri Underground also supply.
